  总体思路

  整个教学过程以“阅读、思考、反馈”为设计主线,笔者采用设置任务和小组讨论多种形式组织教学,将学生的自主学习活动作为课堂的主体,引导学生完成学习任务。

  教学过程

  step1. lead-in

  t: hello, boys and girls. i am very glad to be here to give you a lesson. i know tongxiang high school is the best school in this area, so you are the top students. you must be good at working out math problems or getting high marks in all kinds of tests. but have you ever met some problems that you cannot handle in your life? when you are faced with the tough problems, who would you like to turn to for help?

  s: various answers.

  t: actually we can turn to the wise man around us for help. here the wise man refers to someone who is old but learns a lot from the mistakes he made. today we are going to read a passage and let’s see what we can learn from the wise man in the reading text——wisdom polishes our life.

  设计说明:教师通过聊天的形式导入到与课文相关的“wise man”这一话题,顺利过渡到课文内容的阅读。这样的导入自然,亲切,直接,为后续师生间的交流做好情感上和语言上的铺垫。

  step2. fast reading

  t: the reading passage is an interview between wang xin and mr. adrain savage. so who is wang xin ? and who is mr. adrain savage? why is wang xin interviewing mr. adrain savage?

  s: a school newspaper reporter; a retired business ceo as well as a writer. he is interviewing mr. adrain savage to share his valuable life experience.

  设计说明:通过一些浅显的问题使学生对这篇文章内容有大致的了解,为后续文章内容的处理打下基础。同时简单的渗入,有利于减缓学生对新老师,新内容的不适应。

  step3. careful reading

  t: here the valuable life experience actually refers to the useful advice for dealing with life problems. so what are these suggestions about? please read the passage once again and find out the wise man’s advice.

  教师还可以提问如:

  what is behind this sentence?

  what’s your understanding of this sentence?

  can you explain it in your own words? etc

  引导学生加深对课文内容的理解。

  设计说明:这一环节是对阅读材料的深入理解。通过阅读输入语言,训练学生的阅读技巧,如查找信息和信息归纳能力。在这一教学环节中,师生之间有很多就课文内容理解的交流,在交流过程中教师要引导学生去归纳总结所获取的信息。在学生查找主要信息点的同时,教师要善于捕捉到学生思维的火花并进行适当的板书来强调 “the valuable advice”。

  step3. pair work

  t: great job! these suggestions are involved in the main aspects of our teenagers’ life. but as for you , which one of these suggestions impresses you most? think it over and you may have a brief discussion with your desk mates.

  设计说明: 这一环节的设置是让学生从对课文内容的理解上升到对自我生活的反思,是一种真实的交流。体现了“reading for reflection(improvement、communication)”.

  step4. group work

  t: since these suggestions are so helpful for our life, why not apply them to the people who are in trouble. here are four people who are really troubled by their own problems. let’s give some practical solutions. i should remind you that it is a group work, discuss with each other and write down your tips on the paper, after that, we will share them with all of you here.

  step5. time for teacher’s reflection

  t: your practical and rational solutions show that you have learned a lot from the lesson we have today, and so i have. after reading th passage, i wrote a poem as a kind of reflection. let’s enjoy and share it.

  what a struggling life i led!

  if i had taken my parents’ advice,

  i would be a mother of a lovely baby now.

  if i hadn’t listened to gossip,

  i would have more close friends.

  if i had known the great pain of losing someone,

  i would have accompanied my granny more.

  if i had followed the wise man’s advice,

  i would have suffered fewer hurts.

  step6 homework

  t: write your own reflection after reading the passage. any forms are acceptable.

  设计说明: 把写作任务延伸到课外,可以实现课内学习向课外学习的过渡,实现课内的读、说训练向课外的读、写训练过渡,培养学生综合语言实际运用能力。教师的诗起到语言运用的示范作用,学生可以借鉴模仿,也可以自主创新,有助于激发学生的写作兴趣。
